Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Tomorrow
President’s Message
Pollution from the ICT sector contributes to the increasing projections for the hottest years on record. Human activities are primary drivers of rapid climate change, especially when they involve the release of greenhouse gases such as carbon into the atmosphere. The gases trap heat from the sun, causing the planet to warm up.
The ICT sector can significantly reduce its carbon footprint by improving energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and developing sustainable practices. The actual increase in greenhouse gas emissions will depend on the success of these measures and collaboration between governments, businesses, and consumers to promote sustainability in the sector. We believe cross-sectorial, public, and private mobilization is vital in delivering large-scale, transformative change. We aim to amplify activism, kick-start causes, reframe conversations, and champion change makers in the transitions to digitally sustainable economies through inclusive approaches.
Saving the planet requires effort, and the global workforce is a powerful engine for tackling climate change. Green Skills for Youths contributes to solving the climate issue through environmental literacy by ensuring quality, accessible digital skills to all, leaving no one behind. Education is the key to realizing sustainable development goals and is at the core of breaking poverty cycles, reducing inequality, and reaching for equity, healthy, sustainable lives, and tolerance between people and peaceful societies.
We are building the next generation of social change leaders by supporting bottom-up, people-powered grassroots campaigns to promote digitalization and help communities become more resilient toward a sustainable digital transformation in Africa and beyond.
